Vontobel Asset Management has been appointed by Australia’s Alpha Fund Managers to manage both global equities and emerging markets debt.
One of the two new mandates marks Vontobel’s Zurich-based fixed-interest team’s first assignment in the Australian marketplace according to Bobby Bostic, Vontobel Asset Management’s Australian-based executive director.
He said: “While our equity portfolios are already well-known for delivering superior long-term investment results, our fixed-interest capabilities have recently been recognised by the market and we are delighted to have Alpha Fund Managers as our very first Australian EM debt client.”
According to Julien Brodie, portfolio manager at Alpha Fund Managers, both strategies were chosen due to their “strong track records of outperformance, attractive fees, and lower than market risk”.
The Vontobel Global Equity Fund is a concentrated all-country portfolio with an absolute-return, quality growth investment philosophy and approach. Vontobel’s Emerging Markets Debt strategy utilises a bottom up, value-oriented contrarian style that capitalises on irrational, herd-like investment behaviour to deliver strong results in a variety of market conditions.
