Christopher Page, the managing director of the Rainmaker Group, echoed the views of others last week in calling for the financial services industry to do more to earn back the trust of its customers.
“The Royal Commission and Productivity Commission have put the financial services industry at the forefront of the debate [about how customers are being treated]… With sales and marketing, and in fact wherever you sit, trust is front and centre.”
Page was opening the annual Financial Standard MAX Awards (Marketing, Advertising and Sales Excellence) at Sydney’s Ivy Ballroom. He added that he thought the industry was putting too much reliance on compliance rather than on its research function.
A total of 22 Awards spanned the spectrum of those involved in selling managed funds and investment strategies, from PR and advertising agencies, providers of new technologies to enable better communications, product designers and individual sales and marketing people.
Among the key awards:
- the Sales Executive of the Year Award went to Jordan Brown of Capital Group
- the Marketer of the Year Award went to Michelle Harris of Fidelity International
- The Sales Team of the Year Award went to Vanguard Investments, and
- The Marketing Team of the Year Award went to Franklin Templeton.
Other winners included: Link Group for App of the Year; Honner for PR Agency of the Year; Ptarmigan Media for (advertising) Agency of the Year and Legg Mason with BetaShares for the Product Launch of the Year.
